"For years, the FAA has ignored a major issue and it has become a crisis. My name is Emma Laczko. I am a second-generation pilot. THE FAA KILLED MY FATHER AND UNCLE.

The current aeromedical standards are beyond outdated and it's time for REFORM. If we do not take action more people will die. We must be able to be honest with our doctors and AMES about our health without fear of losing our passion, dream, goal, and jobs. My father died doing any and everything in his power to be put back on the flight line. He was the sole provider for a wife and three kids. If my father, like others, knew he would be able to obtain his license again he would've gotten help sooner and would still be alive today. My uncle committed suicide a few months after my father passed. If he were able to seek help without fear he might still be here today.

Both my uncle and father were senior captains for American Airlines.

So I say with a fierce heart... NOW IS THE TIME FOR CHANGE. WE HAVE TO SHED LIGHT ON A LONG-OVERDUE SUBJECT. WE DESERVE THE BASIC HUMAN RIGHT TO WELLNESS, WITHOUT THE FEAR OF NEVER FLYING AGAIN!"
